② Entry requirements to Egypt

The Egyptian government has announced new immigration requirements and added new inspection requirements for all travelers in response to the increasing number of coronavirus infections around the world.

Mandatory: visa entry for stay in Egypt

All travelers arriving in Egypt must meet national voucher requirements. Japanese citizens can get it from the Egyptian Embassy in Japan in advance, or when they arrive at Cairo airport, etc. (1-month residence permit, US $ 25 fee)

Mandatory: health test

Travelers do not need to be quarantined upon arrival in Egypt, but as of September 1, 2020, all travelers to Egypt will undergo a PCR test 72 hours prior to arrival in Egypt and will be negative upon entry. You need to prove that there is. The inspection results should only be submitted on paper. Digital copies will not be accepted.

Also, collect information on whether or not a PCR test negative proof is required for transit points. Negative proof seems to be confirmed by your airline not only when you arrive in Egypt, but also when you check in or board your flight at your transit point. We recommend that you check with your airline in advance about the conditions for proof of negativeness.

Required: Items required for negative proof (extracted from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website)

○ Description of the date and time of sample collection
○ Sealed by an authorized inspection agency (Note)
○ Description of sample type (by collection site such as pharynx and nose) using a cotton swab wipe
○ Description that the test is performed by the RT-PCR method

Note: The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has posted a list of «PCR testing and certificate issuance for business travelers» medical facilities provided by the Japan Travel Medicine Association, introduced by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, and the latest information is on Japan Travel Medicine. We are instructing you to check the website of the association.

③ Things to keep in mind when staying in Egypt

You are required to wear a mask in all public places during your stay in Egypt, and you may be fined if you do not comply. Strict social distance guidelines apply. Pay attention to and obey all landmarks and signs.

④ Finally …

Information about entry changes every day around the world. Even though the Egyptian government says that it will accept foreign tourists, Egypt is still in Level 3 (travel suspension recommendation area) according to the infectious disease risk information issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The rules for traveling to Egypt have been changed and updated without notice, so please contact the consulate or local authorities before you travel to find out about entry and travel conditions for your nationality. I can’t wait for the day when I can travel as soon as possible without worrying about it! It has come to be called with the Corona era, but when the day comes when you can travel in the future, there may be immigration rules that have never existed before. We recommend that you always check the entry conditions and conditions of each country.
