Continuing from the previous edition of Kenya, I would like to introduce the points of traveling in the neighboring country «Tanzania».

Like Kenya, it is a country that is popular with a wide range of people, and flights and travel times from Japan are not much different from those of Kenya. I often get the question, «Which do you recommend, Kenya?», But both have different merits, so it’s an annoying choice.

The obvious point is that Tanzania is more expensive to travel, so if you’re on a budget, we recommend Kenya. In Kenya, safari vehicles are the choice between minivans and land cruisers, but in Tanzania only land cruisers are running.

What I felt after experiencing safari in both countries was the difference and charm.

Kenya: National parks and protected areas are compactly organized, so you can enjoy safari efficiently while visiting several places. It is suitable for beginners of safari and those who want to experience safari in various places. There are also many repeaters. The world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve is a must-visit park for safari in Kenya. A wide variety of animals inhabit and you will never get bored no matter how many times you visit. The area is smaller than the parks in Tanzania, so it is easy for animals to spot (discover).

Tanzania … The attraction of Tanzania is the vastness of its nature. Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve is about the size of Osaka Prefecture, but Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park is about ten times as large, and the endless horizon makes you feel like you’ve come to Africa! In addition, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which has a huge mortar-shaped crater surrounded by an outer ring at an altitude of 2,400 m, offers a special natural scene that cannot be seen anywhere else.
Due to the vast area of Tanzania, it is not suitable for those who have a short travel date or who prefer a short-term journey. If anything, it is recommended for those who want to stay consecutive nights or travel slowly.

You will be asked, «Which country has more animals? Is there a lot of species?», But since the luck and wild animals at that time are the opponents, it cannot be said unconditionally. You may not see animals in Tanzania that you saw in Kenya, and vice versa.
Tourists gather from all over the world during the peak season, and tourists gather in Masai Mara, where you can easily safari. In the vast Serengeti, it may take some time to encounter animals due to the large area, but on the other hand, there is an advantage that you can enjoy the safari quietly without crowding other tourists.

Points for choosing a tour
If you are visiting Tanzania, you want at least 7 days of travel. Especially for those who are new to safari, we recommend spending one day in Ngorongoro and a few days in Serengeti National Park.

During the period of childbirth and child-rearing of wildebeest, you can enjoy a full safari by staying 2 nights in the southern part of Serengeti «Ndutu district» and 2 nights in the center of Serengeti. During this time, hordes of wildebeests and zebras move from Masai Mara in Kenya to southern Serengeti, giving you a chance to see your baby.

For the journey, we recommend a trip to enjoy the basic wild life. Based on this, we will adjust the content according to the purpose and budget.

Time of travel
Like Kenya, Tanzania offers safari all year round.

January and February of the wildebeest parenting season. October when wildebeests from Kenya return to Tanzania. Not to mention Christmas and the year-end and New Year holidays, it is highly likely that you can see the wildebeest river crossing from June when the dry season begins, and August and September are the peak seasons.

April-May is the low season and there are few tourists, so you can enjoy the safari slowly without being crowded. At this time of year, you can stay at luxury lodges, which are usually expensive, at a great price, so this is the place to go. It is a beautiful rainy season with lush greenery, so it rains repeatedly for a short time like squall.

March, November-December is the high season. Depending on the lodge, you may be able to stay at a low season rate from November to mid-December, which is a little-known month as the number of tourists decreases.
