Project Description

The ‘Animal kingdom’ safari
Masai Mara: 3 Nights / 4 days (departure and local arrival)

The tour begins in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, and journeys through the country to the «Masai Mara Game Reserve» on the same day. The flight time from Nairobi to Masai Mara is about 50 minutes. We spend 3 nights and 4 days here, enjoying the safari! It is a perfect tour for those who want to have a long-time safari experience, even while on short trips.

The Masai Mara National Reserve is located in the Southwestern area of Kenya adjoining the Serengeti National Park in Northern Tanzania, and is famous for the large migration of wildebeest and zebras during the season. It is incredibly rich in wildlife across all species of carnivorous, herbivorous and omnivorous nature. It is the ultimate animal kingdom, a safari experience like no other.

Located in the heart of the Mara Triangle (Masai Mara West, an area between the 400-metre-high cliffs of Oloololo and the Mara River), the property is set on a small hill overlooking the Mara River, famous for its river crossing. It is the best place for the remote game safari, where you can feel the signs of the animals while watching the vast Masai Mara from atop the hill.

Even with a short stay, there are «6 game drives» so you can enjoy lots of game viewing. Hop into the Land Cruiser and brace for a good viewing, going up to the banks of the river, looking for the animals that await your presence.

Points from this tour

16 times Safari in Masai Mara

Having been a short stay, I took advantage of at least 6 Game drives to fully enjoy the Safari. Full day game drives are divided into morning and afternoon sections, allowing for a lunch and refreshment break, in between.

Other options include socializing with Maasai people in their traditional Maasai villages, or a balloon safari experience where you can observe the Savannah and wildlife from the sky – an otherworldly experience.

2Great location! Stay in the Mara Triangle in Masai Mara

The location of the property is very important if you want the ultimate safari. I prefer a short distance from accommodation to the reserve area, to increase chances of seeing a wider array of wildlife, including rare ones. Thus I chose a camp near the park entrance/booking area.

The camp is located on a high hill and offers great views and a unique design that combines naturally with the Savannah. Although it is a camp on the Savannah, it has a spa and a pool, and is no different from staying in a hotel. In camps such as this, animals roam freely and a walk outside could mean meeting with a wild animal casually grazing. As scary as that is, it will definitely leave you with an unforgettable memory of the trip.

3There’s a chance all the Big Five can be seen!

The Big Five animals include, earth’s largest mammals: the Elephant and Rhino, which are endangered species, the Lion, King of the Jungle, the Leopard and the marauding Buffalo. In the Mara, these will most probably e sighted on a good day.

Highlights of the visit

Masai Mara National Reserve

National reserve located on the Southwestern border of Kenya with Tanzania. The number of wild animals is the highest in Kenya.

Mara River

The Mara river is long and winding, running from the foot of the Mau Forest in the Kenyan Highlands in the Great Rift Valley, world renown for its fierce African crocodiles that viciously feed on helpless herbivores during the annual wildebeest migration. The river flows across the Masai Mara in Kenya and into the Serengeti Plains in Tanzania. It is the main lifeline for the Maasai Mara.

Boat trips are ideal for hippo watching and bird watching. Rent a boat from the surrounding hotels to visit Crescent Island on Lake Naivasha, walk along the island, not far from the animals with the guide, enjoy a picnic lunch and feel the sights and sounds of nature, around you.  The island is the home to giraffes, zebras, water-buck, impalas and countless other birds.
It is easily accessible from Nairobi, so you can visit it on a day trip or at night. At night, there are an infinite number of stars and it is recommended to shoot at the starry sky.

Launch sites are concentrated at the northern end of the National Reserve.
