The only World Heritage site. Most of the area is tropical rainforest, but the northern part of the park contains a savanna that formed in Central Africa during the Ice Age 15,000 years ago.
The most characteristic of this space is the mosaic of savannas and humid forests. There is some controversy about the origin and persistence of these savannas. The presence of herbaceous clearings in the humidity conditions of these equatorial latitudes is not fully understood. Clear that the jungle does not get to reconquer.
On the tours you can see jungle elephants, forest buffalo and hear the screams of groups of chimpanzees at sunset. This immense park is home to huge populations of chimpanzees and lowland gorillas. Seeing them is another story. The highest known concentrations of non-human primates in the wild have been reported in La Lopé, a group of 1350 baboons has been seen in a single day.
One of the best places to enjoy safari and trekking by car.
